Level Flow
1
At the start of the level, the Mine entry is boarded up with a closed sign, prompting the player to turn left toward the main house. There are some story opportunities and environmental details, like a fallen windmill and a crushed house along the path.
2
When you enter the main room of the house, a zombie’s shadow can be seen in the next room before it lunges out through the door. In that room, there is a key that can unlock the cell door, where it seems a prisoner took a pickaxe off the wall and dug their way out.
3
Heading into the burrowed tunnel, there is a guidelight by the first save point for the player, as well as the missing pickaxes.
4
Exiting the tunnel leads to the mining village, where the player is forced into the building on their right (our left) by negative affordance in the way of some debris. There is a point of no return after these two buildings have been fully explored
5
The mining village is fairly linear, with two main pathways around a large central rock. Each path has an optional side path that offers story opportunities, ammo, and a new weapon.
6
The first optional path climbs some scaffolding in order to enter a sunken and derelict tower. In this tower is a simple lockbox combination puzzle, ammo, an inventory upgrade, and an SMG at the top.
7
The other side path contains some SMG ammo (that also clues the player in on a possible missed weapon, a story document by the water, and even shows the other end of the closed mine!
8
When the player is finished, they can enter the minecart track and cross the water body towards the minecart depot
9
The Minecart Depot has the opportunity for a shotgun unlock after a quick puzzle, before dropping down into the first floor and fighting through some more zombies
10
Before the boss area, the first thing that sticks out at this junction is the save point with a swinging lantern above it. Next is the gate that the player will realize needs a code. Once they turn around, the way forward will be visible.
11
Turning 180 degrees around shows off the path to the boss that is outside LOS when approaching the Refinery. There is also a guidelight
